Microsoft Revamps AI Coding Strategy, Phases Out Claude Code

Microsoft has initiated a significant overhaul of its AI coding tool approach, starting with the cancellation of Claude Code licenses for thousands of its developers. Initially launched in December, Claude Code aimed to foster a coding culture among non-technical employees, gaining substantial popularity within the company over the past six months.

According to sources, Microsoft is now shifting its focus towards Copilot CLI, prompting a reevaluation of its investment in Claude Code. This strategic move indicates a new direction in the company’s AI coding tool strategy, with developers being redirected to use Copilot CLI instead.
