Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has introduced a groundbreaking AI-powered age detection system to identify and remove users under the age of 13 from its platforms. This innovative approach utilizes artificial intelligence to analyze photos and videos for visual cues such as height and bone structure.
The system, which does not employ facial recognition, focuses on detecting general themes and visual cues that indicate the presence of minors, ensuring user privacy by not identifying specific individuals in images. Meta’s AI technology will also examine posts, comments, bios, and captions to uncover contextual clues that may indicate the presence of underage users.
This initiative is part of Meta’s ongoing efforts to create a safe and age-appropriate environment on its platforms. By leveraging AI-driven age detection, Meta aims to provide a more secure online experience for all users, particularly younger audiences.
