Microsoft is making a massive bet on the UK’s artificial intelligence future, pledging £22 billion (roughly $30 billion) to strengthen AI infrastructure and support ongoing operations from 2025 to 2028. A significant portion of this investment, $15 billion, will be used to construct a cutting-edge supercomputer designed to address the rapidly growing need for AI processing power. The move dwarfs Google’s recent £5 billion (approximately $6.8 billion) commitment to UK AI projects, positioning Microsoft as a leading investor in the region. The planned supercomputer will boast over 23,000 advanced GPUs, developed in collaboration with Nscale. This substantial investment underscores Microsoft’s belief in the UK’s potential to become a central player in the global AI landscape.
