Anthropic’s Claude chatbot is getting a memory upgrade, enabling it to recall past interactions and continue conversations seamlessly. The new feature allows users to pick up where they left off in projects and easily reference previous discussions without having to re-explain context.

A demonstration showcased Claude’s ability to retrieve and summarize past chats when prompted, allowing users to jump back into ongoing tasks. The feature is rolling out to Claude’s Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers across web, desktop, and mobile platforms.

Importantly, Claude’s memory function is triggered by user request – it doesn’t persistently store conversation history without explicit direction. This approach differs from some competing AI chatbots and offers users more control over their data. The update marks the latest development in the ongoing competition between Anthropic and OpenAI, as both companies strive to enhance their AI chatbot offerings with personalized and engaging features.
