Reddit is implementing age verification measures for users in the UK, driven by compliance with the Online Safety Act and growing concerns surrounding AI-driven bot accounts. Users attempting to access mature content will now be required to verify their age, using methods such as uploading a selfie or government-issued identification. The platform is partnering with Persona, a third-party identity verification service, to facilitate this process. This move mirrors a similar initiative recently adopted by Bluesky. Beyond regulatory compliance, Reddit also indicated a desire to distinguish between human users and AI bots, suggesting future efforts to curb automated activity on the platform. The company stated that it may extend these age verification requirements to other regions in the future.
