Amazon is bracing for a significant shift in its corporate workforce as artificial intelligence continues to permeate its operations. CEO Andy Jassy communicated to employees that the company foresees a reduction in personnel as AI-driven efficiencies reshape various roles. This announcement follows over 27,000 layoffs since 2022, impacting divisions such as devices, services, and books.
Jassy emphasized Amazon’s extensive investment in AI, boasting over 1,000 AI services and applications, with plans for continued expansion. He urged employees to proactively engage with AI and explore its potential to streamline workflows within smaller teams. The move aligns with a broader trend across the tech industry, where companies like Shopify and Duolingo are actively exploring AI to optimize resource allocation and even replace certain roles. Duolingo, for instance, has adopted an “AI-first” approach, signaling a potential shift away from human contractors in some areas.
