Tesla has reached a significant milestone in the development of its autonomous driving technology. The company’s fleet of vehicles using the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system has surpassed 10 billion miles driven, as reported on its updated safety page.
This achievement marks a major step towards ‘safe unsupervised’ driving, a threshold set by Elon Musk earlier this year. However, it’s crucial to note that Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system remains a Level 2 system, requiring a fully attentive human driver to monitor the road and be prepared to take over at any moment.
Although this milestone represents a significant step forward, it does not imply that Tesla owners will immediately have fully autonomous vehicles. The company still needs to advance its technology before its vehicles can operate without human supervision.
