ZTE is showcasing a prototype Nubia M153 smartphone featuring a deep integration of ByteDance’s Doubao AI agent directly within the Android operating system. This unique implementation grants the AI agent comprehensive control over the device, allowing it to interact with the user interface, select and install applications, execute taps and typing, initiate phone calls, and manage complex, multi-step task chains. A demonstration video, initially shared on X by TaylorOgan and subsequently highlighted on Reddit’s r/artificial intelligence community, illustrates the AI’s capabilities, including the ability to autonomously find someone to wait in line. This represents a significant step towards AI-powered smartphones with true agency. [Reddit Post: https://old.reddit.com/r/artificial/comments/1pe0ljs/an_actual_ai_enabled_smartphone_is_here/]
