Zoox, the autonomous vehicle subsidiary of Amazon, has initiated a software recall impacting its entire fleet of 270 robotaxis. This action comes after a recent incident in Las Vegas where an unoccupied Zoox vehicle was involved in a collision.
The recall targets a potential software flaw that could cause the robotaxi to incorrectly assess the actions of other vehicles merging into its lane. This misjudgment, according to Zoox, could lead to a collision. The company reported that the Las Vegas incident resulted in minor damage and no injuries.
A safety recall report has been submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This isn’t the first software adjustment for Zoox; the company previously addressed issues related to abrupt braking following two separate incidents involving motorcyclists.
