Microsoft has released the next annual Windows 11 update, version 25H2, to the Release Preview Channel for testing. While the update’s headlining features remain under wraps, it mirrors the functionality of version 24H2, deploying new capabilities incrementally throughout the year. A key aspect of the 25H2 update is the removal of older components, including PowerShell 2.0 and Windows Management Instrumentation command-line (WMIC). In addition, IT administrators gain greater control over pre-installed Microsoft Store applications, with the ability to remove them on Enterprise and EDU devices through Group Policy or MDM CSP. The transition to 25H2 is designed for a smooth experience, requiring only a single restart, as many new features are already present but disabled until the enablement package is activated. Users interested in testing Windows 11, version 25H2 (Build 26200.5074) can enroll in the Release Preview Channel via the Windows Update settings.
