Waymo is aggressively expanding its autonomous ride-hailing footprint, announcing plans to launch commercial robotaxi services in San Diego, Las Vegas, and Detroit. This move signifies a continued push to rapidly scale and deploy its driverless technology across the United States. While the company hasn’t announced precise launch dates, it expects to be operational in these three new cities sometime in the coming year. Currently, Waymo’s robotaxis are active in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Austin, and Atlanta. The company has also signaled its interest in further expansion into other major metropolitan areas, including Boston, Seattle, Denver, Miami, New York City, and Washington, DC. A key hurdle for Waymo will be securing necessary regulatory approvals in Nevada and Michigan to operate fully driverless vehicles commercially. The company plans to integrate its new Zeekr RT vehicles, equipped with its 6th generation autonomous driving technology, into its growing fleet. Waymo touts this new generation technology as more cost-efficient.
