Warner Music Group (WMG) and AI music creation platform Suno have announced a licensing agreement that will allow users to generate music incorporating WMG artists’ voices, names, likenesses, images, and compositions. WMG stresses that its artists will retain significant control over how their identities and musical works are utilized within the AI platform. Suno anticipates the partnership will unlock new revenue opportunities for artists while fostering unique user experiences. As part of the agreement, WMG is dropping its existing lawsuit against Suno. This deal mirrors similar moves by other major labels, including Universal Music Group (UMG) and Sony, who have also entered into licensing agreements with AI music platforms. Suno intends to leverage the licensed music to further develop its AI models. In a related announcement, Suno indicated that song downloads will soon require paid accounts.
