US Lawmakers Grill Waymo and Tesla on Autonomous Vehicle Safety

Executives from Waymo and Tesla recently testified before the US Senate, pushing for legislation to facilitate the deployment of self-driving cars on public roads.

Sensators questioned the executives on key issues, including the safety of robotaxis, legal liability, and the use of remote operation technologies, during a two-hour hearing.

Waymo faced tough questions about its use of a Chinese-made vehicle for its next-generation robotaxi and incidents where its vehicles failed to stop behind a school bus during student pickup.

Despite the executives’ pleas, the passage of autonomous vehicle legislation in the near future remains uncertain.
