Uber is aggressively pursuing the robotaxi revolution, committing a multi-hundred-million dollar investment in partnerships with Lucid and Nuro. The ride-hailing giant plans to deploy a fleet of 20,000+ autonomous vehicles across the United States within the next six years.
The robotaxi fleet will leverage Lucid’s Gravity SUV platform, integrated with Nuro’s advanced autonomous driving technology. These self-driving vehicles will be exclusively accessible through the Uber app, with initial deployments slated for an undisclosed US city starting in 2026.
Uber’s investment includes $300 million directed towards Lucid and a larger undisclosed sum invested in Nuro, earning Uber a seat on Nuro’s board. This strategic move reinforces Uber’s commitment to accelerating the adoption of both electric and autonomous vehicles. Nuro will be responsible for developing Level 4 autonomous capabilities for the robotaxis. This partnership provides a significant boost for both Nuro and Lucid, who have both been navigating challenging financial landscapes recently.
