Spotify is cracking down on the burgeoning issue of AI-generated music flooding its platform. New policies are being implemented to combat AI ‘slop,’ prevent artists from being impersonated via AI voice clones, and foster greater transparency around AI’s role in music production. In collaboration with DDEX, Spotify is developing a metadata standard that will require creators to disclose when AI is used in song creation. The platform is also deploying a music spam filter designed to identify and remove tracks designed to game the system. To specifically address artist impersonation, Spotify is implementing stricter measures against the unauthorized use of AI voice cloning technology.
