Samsung’s SmartThings platform is now leveraging the power of artificial intelligence to make home automation simpler than ever. The centerpiece of this update is the Routine Creation Assistant, which allows users to create complex routines using everyday language. Instead of navigating complicated menus, users can simply type requests like “dim the lights when the movie starts” and SmartThings will automatically configure the necessary settings.
This AI-powered functionality reflects a broader industry trend, with Google Home (Gemini) and Amazon’s Alexa Plus also integrating similar natural language capabilities. Samsung’s implementation is currently available in Korea and the US for both Android and iOS users.
Beyond the Routine Creation Assistant, SmartThings has also introduced scheduled timed steps within routines, customizable confirmation notifications, enhanced Apple Watch app functionality, and a Virtual Home feature for users to explore the platform’s capabilities without needing physical smart devices. Furthermore, Samsung is expanding its Calm Onboarding program to more regions and devices, aiming to provide a smoother and more intuitive setup experience for new SmartThings users.
