Conservative activist Robby Starbuck has filed a lawsuit against Google, claiming its AI search tools generated false and defamatory statements linking him to sexual assault allegations and associating him with white nationalist Richard Spencer. This marks Starbuck’s second legal action against a major technology firm concerning AI-generated inaccuracies. He previously sued Meta, alleging its AI falsely implicated him in the January 6th Capitol attack. Google has responded, asserting that the reported ‘hallucinations’ within Bard were addressed in 2023 and acknowledged that such inaccuracies are a recognized limitation across all Large Language Models (LLMs). Starbuck is seeking $15 million in damages for the alleged harm caused by the AI-generated misinformation.
