A new era in local AI development has begun with the launch of Conifer, an open-source, native AI runtime and IDE that’s set to change the game. By focusing on the engine itself, Conifer operates at a different layer of the stack, offering a unique approach to local AI development.
Conifer boasts an impressive array of features, including a native inference runtime for Mac, Linux, and Windows, with a custom Metal engine for Apple Silicon that rivals llama.cpp in performance. The platform also features a fully-fledged coding IDE with CodeMirror, integrated terminal, and file viewers, allowing users to code locally with models that never leave their machine.
One of the standout features of Conifer is Typhoon, a local agent that can read and edit a folder, kernel-sandboxed for enhanced security. The installation process is straightforward, with a signed app that can be double-clicked, eliminating the need for Docker or localhost ports.
Conifer’s mission is to make local AI accessible to everyone, regardless of their machine or setup. The project is fully free and open source, with a launch scheduled for June 1st. Interested users can sign up for the waitlist at conifer.build to be among the first to experience the future of local AI development.
