Reddit has initiated a lawsuit against Perplexity, an AI search engine, accusing the company of unlawful data scraping for AI model training purposes. The suit alleges that Perplexity circumvented Reddit’s data safeguards by employing third-party data-scraping services. Despite receiving a cease-and-desist order from Reddit, Perplexity reportedly persisted in scraping data. Reddit, which has existing data licensing agreements with firms such as OpenAI and Google, contends that Perplexity opted to acquire ‘stolen data’ instead of pursuing a legitimate licensing agreement.
