Nintendo is taking a hardline stance against console modding, updating its user agreement to include the possibility of permanently disabling devices found in violation of their terms of service. This includes any attempts to modify, reverse engineer, or circumvent the Switch’s intended functionality. The updated policy also grants Nintendo the authority to monitor user chat sessions, ostensibly in preparation for enhanced chat capabilities on the forthcoming Switch 2. This aggressive move follows the company’s recent legal victories against emulator developers, most notably the shutdown of the widely used Yuzu emulator, signaling a significant shift in Nintendo’s enforcement strategy. The Verge reports on the updated user agreement.
