Microsoft Shifts Windows Update Policy to Empower Users

Microsoft is introducing significant changes to its Windows update policy, effectively ending the frustration and disruption caused by automatic updates. The move comes after years of criticism from users who felt that the company’s approach to updates was heavy-handed and often resulted in lost work and productivity.

The decision to take control of updates away from users was initially made in 2015, with the aim of improving security and reducing the risk of malware. However, the approach ultimately led to a range of issues, including unexpected shutdowns, unwanted app installations, and problematic updates that caused booting problems.

As part of its efforts to fix Windows 11, Microsoft is now giving users the ability to pause updates indefinitely, providing greater control over when and how their systems are updated.
