Indonesia’s ambition to become a regional AI powerhouse is gaining significant momentum thanks to the expansion of Microsoft’s Indonesia Central cloud region. This expansion offers enhanced access to crucial cloud and AI resources, empowering local organizations to accelerate their AI-driven initiatives.

Speaking at the Cloud & AI Innovation Summit in Jakarta, Microsoft emphasized the pivotal role of localized cloud infrastructure in transforming abstract AI potential into practical applications. This development allows Indonesian businesses to build custom AI solutions, modernize existing infrastructure, and gain greater control over their data by processing it locally.

The Indonesia Central region now boasts a comprehensive suite of Azure services, streamlining the development and deployment of sophisticated software solutions. This includes tools for building data-driven applications, robust data management services, and AI-optimized virtual machines. Support for Microsoft 365 Copilot and GitHub Copilot further empowers developers and end-users.

Leading Indonesian companies such as Petrosea, Vale Indonesia, and tiket.com are already leveraging the local cloud infrastructure to modernize outdated systems and comply with stringent data governance regulations. Tiket.com, for example, has developed an innovative AI-powered travel assistant using Azure OpenAI Service.

Microsoft has also introduced Microsoft Fabric to the Indonesian market, offering a unified platform integrating data engineering, integration, warehousing, analytics, and business intelligence. This solution, equipped with Copilot features, is designed to enhance governance, streamline reporting, and optimize costs.

Complementing the infrastructure investment, Microsoft is actively addressing the skills gap through its Microsoft Elevate program, with the goal of certifying 500,000 individuals in AI skills by 2026. This initiative is part of Microsoft’s broader US$1.7 billion investment commitment to Indonesia between 2024 and 2028.

Indonesia envisions itself as a regional leader in secure and inclusive AI development, driving sustainable digital growth for the nation.
