Meta is streamlining its Reality Labs division, leading to layoffs across teams, including those working on Oculus Studios and hardware development. The restructuring will affect personnel involved in the VR fitness game Supernatural, acquired by Meta for over $400 million following a successful defense against an antitrust lawsuit. A message posted on Supernatural’s Facebook page indicated the changes are aimed at improving efficiency in the company’s approach to “the future of fitness.” According to Meta spokesperson Tracy Clayton, Oculus Studios is undergoing structural changes that will impact team size. These shifts are intended to increase efficiency in the creation of mixed reality experiences for an expanding user base, all while upholding standards for content quality. Meta reiterated its dedication to investing in the mixed reality space, encompassing both fitness and gaming applications.
