LinkedIn has begun labeling AI-generated images using content provenance data from platforms participating in the C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity). However, a loophole has emerged: users are circumventing the detection by uploading screenshots of AI-generated images instead of the original files. A Reddit user, /u/MarketingNetMind, highlighted this workaround, demonstrating how the current system can be easily fooled. The feature currently recognizes images originating from ChatGPT/DALL-E 3, Adobe Firefly, Leica Camera, and BBC news. The ease with which the detection is bypassed raises questions about the long-term effectiveness of LinkedIn’s approach and the potential adoption of C2PA standards by other AI image generation platforms.
