Amazon is launching Kindle Translate, a new artificial intelligence-powered service that enables self-published authors to translate their ebooks into other languages. The beta version currently supports translations between English and Spanish, as well as German to English conversions, completely free of charge to authors.

Using Kindle Translate, authors can select target languages, determine pricing for the translated versions of their books, and preview the results before publication. Amazon states that the AI system automatically assesses translation accuracy, and ebooks translated using this tool will be clearly marked. Amazon’s goal is to expand the diversity of language offerings on the Kindle store, as currently less than 5% of ebooks are available in more than one language. Furthermore, ebooks translated through Kindle Translate will be eligible for participation in Amazon’s KDP Select and Kindle Unlimited programs.

This initiative mirrors Audible’s recent introduction of an AI-driven multilingual narration tool, further showcasing Amazon’s growing investment in AI to broaden content accessibility and provide more options for creators.
