OpenAI has tapped Instacart CEO Fidji Simo to lead its newly formed Applications division, effective August 18th. In her new role as ‘CEO of Applications,’ Simo will report directly to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and spearhead the expansion and development of the company’s existing application offerings. Simo, who has served on OpenAI’s board since March 2024, brings a wealth of experience in scaling consumer-facing products.
