Huawei is doubling down on AI with HarmonyOS 6, embedding intelligent agents directly into the operating system’s architecture. This strategic move aims to position HarmonyOS as a proactive and intelligent alternative to the established dominance of Android and iOS. The developer beta highlights an AI-centric philosophy, evolving the OS from a reactive platform to a smart, assistive intermediary.
Central to this evolution is a developer-friendly AI agents framework, empowering creators to build automated programs without the complex overhead of constructing or training underlying foundation models. Huawei plans to launch with over 50 pre-built AI agents sourced from prominent Chinese platforms. Complementing this, Huawei has unveiled Pangu 5.5, a suite of AI models tailored for enterprise and industrial applications. These models target critical sectors including medicine, finance, governance, manufacturing, and automotive.
Independent analysis from Canalys indicates strong HarmonyOS adoption, with over 103 million smartphones and 21 million tablets shipped. A significant portion of this growth, nearly half, occurred in 2024, underscoring the platform’s increasing traction, especially within the Chinese market.
