Google is experimenting with a new feature called ‘Search Live,’ which integrates real-time AI voice conversations directly into its search engine. This capability, accessed through a dedicated ‘AI Mode,’ enables users to engage in interactive, voice-based dialogues with Google’s AI chatbot. While currently lacking camera-sharing functionalities, Google intends to incorporate this feature in the future. ‘Search Live’ leverages a customized version of its Gemini AI model, enabling real-time web searching capabilities. Users can point their device’s camera at objects and pose questions, receiving spoken responses from the AI. The initial test is available to a select group of ‘Labs’ users within the United States, demonstrating Google’s commitment to transforming its core search product. The move follows similar forays into voice-based AI interactions by companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic, who have also developed voice modes for their respective AI models.
