Google’s Gemini model has emerged as a strategic powerhouse in a recent Prisoner’s Dilemma tournament against other Large Language Models (LLMs). A study published on arXiv reveals that Gemini displayed a ‘strategically ruthless’ approach, effectively leveraging cooperative opponents while punishing defectors. In contrast, OpenAI’s models leaned towards cooperation, a strategy that proved disadvantageous in competitive scenarios. The findings, initially highlighted on Reddit’s Artificial Intelligence forum, suggest that Gemini possesses a greater capacity for strategic adaptation compared to its counterparts.
