Google’s Gemini AI is expected to significantly enhance iPhone capabilities through a partnership with Apple. CEO Sundar Pichai, during recent legal proceedings, confirmed that a deal is likely to materialize by mid-year, potentially leading to a rollout as early as the end of 2025. This collaboration would enable Siri to leverage Gemini for more complex and nuanced responses, similar to Apple’s current integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Apple’s SVP Craig Federighi had previously alluded to the possibility of incorporating Gemini into Apple Intelligence. Pichai’s confirmation came as a response to inquiries from a Department of Justice lawyer, confirming past speculations and ongoing dialogues between Pichai and Apple CEO Tim Cook concerning AI development and the distribution of Gemini on Apple devices. Cook reportedly outlined plans for broader third-party AI model support within Apple Intelligence later in the year.
Further bolstering the possibility of this integration is the appearance of “Google” as an AI model option within an iOS 18.4 beta, indicating that Gemini could soon offer enriched functionalities like image analysis and generation directly within the iPhone ecosystem. Users will likely be prompted by Siri to activate Gemini for complex tasks, mirroring the existing ChatGPT user experience.
