The reactor, developed by Kairos Power and slated to begin operations in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, by 2030, will supply electricity to Google’s data centers across Tennessee and Alabama. This initiative highlights the growing demand for energy driven by AI advancements and Google’s commitment to sustainable power solutions. This isn’t Google’s first foray into nuclear energy; the company has previously announced plans to purchase electricity from Kairos Power’s small modular reactors. Google’s ambition is to deploy 500 megawatts of new nuclear capacity in the United States by 2035, showcasing a significant investment in nuclear technology as a key component of its clean energy strategy.
