Uber and autonomous driving tech firm Momenta are teaming up to launch a pilot program for fully driverless cars in Munich, Germany, slated to begin in 2026. This initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of robotaxi services in Europe, bringing the continent closer to the advancements already seen in the US and China. The Level 4 autonomous vehicles will initially operate with safety drivers present before transitioning to full driverless mode. Uber intends to expand the Momenta-powered robotaxi service to other European cities pending a successful pilot program. Momenta, supported by Chinese investors and major automotive players, currently runs a robotaxi service in Shanghai, providing valuable experience for this European expansion.
