Google’s Gemini AI has expanded its repertoire, now summarizing video content directly within Google Drive. This enhancement allows users to quickly grasp the essence of videos without needing to dedicate time to full viewing. Building on existing summarization capabilities for documents and PDFs, Gemini uses a chatbot-style interface to deliver concise overviews and extract specific information, such as action items from meeting recordings or crucial announcements from video updates.

To take advantage of this feature, videos require enabled captions. Accessing the summarization is straightforward, either through Google Drive’s previewer or in a separate browser tab. Currently, this functionality is available in English for users with Google Workspace, Google One AI Premium subscriptions, or Gemini Business/Enterprise add-ons. In addition to video summarization, Google is also rolling out engagement metrics for Drive videos, tracking the number of times a video has been opened, accessible within the Analytics section.
