Google is set to expand access to its Gemini AI chatbot to younger users through its Family Link parental control system. Parents will receive notifications via Family Link, informing them of their child’s ability to utilize Gemini for educational support, such as homework assistance and storytelling. Google emphasizes that children’s data will be excluded from AI training datasets.
Despite these safeguards, Google acknowledges that Gemini is prone to errors and may occasionally present inappropriate content. The company recommends proactive discussions between parents and children regarding the inherent limitations of AI and the distinction between chatbots and human interaction. While Family Link provides monitoring and usage restriction capabilities, children under 13 can independently enable Gemini. This development was first reported by The Verge.
