FTC Urged to Investigate Claims of 'AI Psychosis' Following Chatbot Interactions

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is facing mounting pressure to investigate claims of ‘AI psychosis’ allegedly triggered by interactions with artificial intelligence chatbots, such as ChatGPT. A series of complaints, submitted to the FTC between November 2022 and August 2025, describe instances of users experiencing delusions, paranoia, and even spiritual crises, which they attribute directly to their engagement with the AI technology. The complaints have fueled calls for greater regulation and oversight of the burgeoning AI sector.
