The U.S. government has struck a deal with Google, granting federal agencies access to its Gemini AI suite for a strikingly low price of $0.47 per agency. Dubbed ‘Gemini for Government,’ the agreement provides agencies with a comprehensive toolkit including NotebookLM, Google’s Veo video and image generation technology, and AI-powered research assistants.

This move expands upon Google’s established footprint within the federal sector, where it already provides Google Workspace at a discounted rate. According to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, the partnership represents a deepening of existing collaborations.

The extremely low pricing has sparked discussion about the long-term viability of the arrangement, leading some to speculate that it is a calculated strategic investment by Google. Google’s cloud platform products boast FedRamp High authorization, addressing critical security concerns. However, despite the compelling price point, outstanding questions remain regarding implementation schedules, necessary training programs, and the potential risks associated with vendor lock-in.
