OpenAI is rolling out a new “Study Mode” in ChatGPT, aiming to transform how users learn. This feature moves beyond simply providing answers, instead employing techniques like interactive prompts, Socratic questioning, and self-reflection to guide users through problem-solving. Accessible to ChatGPT Free, Plus, Pro, and Team subscribers, with a future release planned for ChatGPT Edu users, Study Mode structures responses logically, emphasizing connections between topics. The system tailors lessons and quizzes to individual skill levels and memory retention based on prior interactions. This launch reflects a growing trend among AI companies, including competitors like Anthropic with its “Learning mode,” to integrate AI into education. Users retain control, however, with the option to disable Study Mode, underscoring the importance of self-directed learning to maximize its potential.
