Apple is intensifying its efforts in the smart glasses market, shifting resources to compete with Meta and other players. This strategic pivot involves accelerating the development of two distinct smart glasses models, while simultaneously delaying the release of a previously planned lighter version of the Vision Pro headset.

The company is reportedly focusing on two smart glasses variants. The first, anticipated to launch around 2027, will be a display-less model relying heavily on voice commands and AI, mirroring the functionality of Meta’s Ray-Ban and Oakley offerings. The second, equipped with a display, was initially slated for 2028 but is now under expedited development, potentially positioning it as a direct competitor to Meta’s Ray-Ban Display glasses.

Sources indicate Apple is designing a custom chip to power its smart glasses, further emphasizing its commitment to the wearable technology. While the development of smart glasses gains momentum, Apple has reportedly reduced production of the original Vision Pro. However, a minor refresh of the Vision Pro is still expected to be released by the end of the year.
