The Alan Turing Institute is spearheading a new initiative, ‘Doing AI Differently,’ pushing for the integration of humanities principles into artificial intelligence development. The project focuses on developing Interpretive AI, systems designed to navigate ambiguity and incorporate multiple viewpoints. This approach prioritizes human-AI collaboration, leveraging human creativity alongside AI’s analytical capabilities to tackle intricate challenges. Applications span diverse fields such as healthcare, where Interpretive AI promises enhanced patient care, and climate action, where it can bridge the gap between global datasets and local realities. An international funding call will bring together researchers from the UK and Canada, solidifying the effort to ensure the safe and reliable deployment of future AI systems.
