A groundbreaking study, the Remote Labor Index (RLI), has benchmarked the current state of AI agents in automating remote work tasks. Conducted by researchers at the Center for AI Safety and Scale AI, the RLI assessed AI performance across 240 freelance jobs spanning 23 domains. The results indicate that while AI’s ability to handle these tasks is still limited, it’s exhibiting encouraging progress. The leading AI agent, named Manus, successfully completed 2.5% of the assessed projects, generating $1,720 in earnings out of a potential $143,991. The study further highlighted a trend: newer AI models consistently outperformed their predecessors, suggesting a clear trajectory toward enhanced automation of remote work.
