Aspiring mystery writers can now learn from the best, as BBC Studios has utilized artificial intelligence to create a digital version of Agatha Christie for a new online masterclass. The ‘Agatha Christie Writing’ course on BBC Maestro, a subscription-based learning platform, features actress Vivien Keene enhanced by AI to embody the iconic author. The course utilizes restored audio recordings, licensed images, and interviews with Christie to present lessons “in Agatha’s very own words,” according to her great-grandson, James Prichard. While the on-screen portrayal is AI-assisted, the curriculum, developed by academics, is entirely human-authored and based on Christie’s established writing methods. The 11 video lessons and 12 exercises cover essential aspects of crime novel creation, offering guidance on structuring plots and building suspense.
