Adidas has unveiled a new take on its innovative 3D-printed Climacool sneaker, adding traditional laces for a more adjustable and secure fit. The Climacool Laced, priced at $160, builds upon the original slip-on design, offering enhanced customization without sacrificing the shoe’s signature breathability. The lattice structure, created through a 3D printing process using high-tech polymers, remains a core feature.
While the initial Climacool was a laceless design, the new version incorporates a black tongue and laces, lending it a more conventional athletic aesthetic. The 3D printing process for each shoe takes around 24 hours, involving a complex procedure of spinning, baking, and compression. The upper now includes printed eyelets for the laces, while the tongue and laces themselves are crafted from non-3D-printed materials. Adidas claims the new design enhances overall comfort and improves compatibility across a broader range of foot sizes, all while preserving the original Climacool’s breathability and quick-drying properties.
