Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched a lawsuit against Roblox, alleging the platform puts profits ahead of protecting children. The suit accuses Roblox of deceptive trade practices and fostering a ‘common nuisance’ by allegedly harboring child predators. This action echoes similar legal challenges from other states. The lawsuit specifically highlights concerns that Roblox is exploited by individuals seeking to harm children. In response, Roblox expressed disappointment with the legal action and emphasized its commitment to safety, citing over 145 safety measures implemented this year. These measures include planned age verification using ID verification and facial scans. Notably, Roblox is also developing an AI system designed to detect early indicators of potential child endangerment. The effectiveness and ethical implications of using AI in this capacity are under scrutiny.
