OpenAI is rolling out a significant update to ChatGPT, designed to boost productivity for Business, Enterprise, and Education users by enabling seamless access to workspace knowledge. Leveraging advanced AI capabilities, reportedly derived from a version of GPT-5, ChatGPT can now connect directly to popular workplace platforms like Slack, SharePoint, Google Drive, and GitHub. This integration transforms ChatGPT into a powerful conversational search engine, capable of rapidly sifting through vast amounts of workplace data to deliver precise answers and actionable insights. The move comes shortly after Anthropic’s similar unveiling of ‘Skills’ for its Claude AI.

This GPT-5-enhanced feature empowers users to ask complex questions and receive comprehensive answers synthesized from multiple sources, complete with clear citations for easy verification. Imagine, for example, being able to generate a client call briefing by drawing information from recent Slack conversations, emails, Google Docs, and Intercom support tickets – all within ChatGPT.

The AI is designed to handle ambiguity by running parallel searches and resolving inconsistencies, while also supporting time-based filtering for contextually relevant results. Users manually activate company knowledge access for each new conversation. When active, web search and chart/image generation are disabled to ensure a focused user experience centered on internal data. While ChatGPT can still answer questions using connected apps even without active company knowledge, the responses won’t be as detailed or benefit from the same level of citation.

OpenAI plans to expand the scope of company knowledge support to encompass more ChatGPT features in upcoming updates, suggesting an ongoing commitment to enhancing workplace AI solutions.
