YouTube is launching an AI-powered “likeness detection” tool for its Partner Program, designed to empower creators to combat deepfakes and unauthorized uses of their digital personas. This new feature enables verified creators to review videos flagged by the AI within YouTube Studio and request the removal of AI-generated content that mimics their appearance, effectively addressing the growing concern of digital impersonation.
The tool operates similarly to YouTube’s existing Content ID system, which identifies copyrighted material, but focuses specifically on detecting AI-generated imitations. While still under development, the tool may occasionally misidentify videos featuring a creator’s actual face. This initiative follows a successful pilot program conducted with the Creative Artists Agency (CAA). Furthermore, YouTube mandates that creators clearly label any AI-generated or altered content, including AI-generated music that replicates an artist’s voice, reinforcing transparency and responsible AI usage on the platform.
