OnePlus is set to launch OxygenOS 16, built on Android 16, bringing a host of improvements, particularly to its Mind Space AI tool. A major highlight is the full integration of Google Gemini, enabling enhanced AI-powered functionality. Beyond Gemini, the update boasts customizable lock screens, streamlined connectivity, and visual refinements.

The redesigned Mind Space takes center stage. Initially designed for analyzing saved screenshots, Mind Space now handles longer scrolling screenshots and supports 60-second voice memos, providing richer context for the AI. The Google Gemini integration allows users to leverage their Mind Space data for practical tasks. Imagine asking Gemini to automatically generate a travel itinerary based on screenshots of hotels, flights, and tourist destinations.

OxygenOS 16 borrows from iOS 16 with new lock screen customizations. It also addresses connectivity, enabling seamless photo sharing between OnePlus and iPhones, limited Apple Watch integration for notifications, and remote control of Macs and Windows PCs through the O Plus Connect app.

Users can anticipate smoother performance and refined animations, along with a new ‘Optical Light’ UI effect. Notably, several of these features are mirrored in Oppo’s ColorOS 16, reflecting the close relationship between the brands. The OxygenOS 16 open beta is scheduled for October 17th, with the official release anticipated alongside the launch of the OnePlus 15, followed by a broader rollout to legacy devices.
