Alphabet’s self-driving technology arm, Waymo, is poised to bring its fully driverless robotaxi service to London, targeting a 2026 launch. This international expansion signifies a major milestone for Waymo. The initiative aligns with the UK government’s plans to pilot driverless ride-hailing services, anticipated to begin in Spring 2026 following the implementation of the Automated Vehicles Act of 2024. In the initial phase, Waymo will deploy vehicles with safety drivers to gather crucial data within the city. The driverless service will be accessible via the Waymo app, with fleet maintenance managed by Moove, a specialist in fleet services. Waymo’s extensive testing history across various cities aims to streamline the introduction of its technology in new locations.
