OpenAI’s ChatGPT will soon offer access to erotic content for age-verified adult users, CEO Sam Altman has announced. The change, slated for December, reflects OpenAI’s philosophy of providing mature content to mature audiences. This development echoes previous indications of allowing developers to build ‘mature’ ChatGPT applications with appropriate age verification measures. Competitor xAI has already ventured into this space with flirty AI companions within their Grok app, setting a precedent. OpenAI is also reportedly developing a new iteration of ChatGPT, aiming to emulate the widely acclaimed GPT-4o model. Previously, adjustments made to mitigate potential mental health concerns had, for some, diminished the chatbot’s overall user experience. To address these concerns, OpenAI has implemented enhanced tools for identifying mental distress and established a ‘well-being and AI’ council to oversee responses in sensitive situations.
