Even the most advanced AI agents are still struggling with seemingly simple requests, as demonstrated by a recent test involving financial data. When tasked with plotting the SP500 index divided by the price of gold from 2000 to 2025, several prominent AI models faltered. MetaAI’s attempt resulted in an incorrect chart, while Grok only managed to plot data for a fraction of the requested timeframe (2000-2001). Google’s Gemini also failed to successfully complete the task. This highlights the ongoing limitations of AI agents in processing and executing even relatively straightforward instructions, particularly when dealing with real-world data and requiring precise calculations and visualization. The original observation was shared on Reddit’s r/artificial intelligence (https://old.reddit.com/r/artificial/comments/1o26kt2/in_the_days_of_ai_agents_a_simple_request_fails/).
