The Google Home app is undergoing a significant redesign, placing Google’s Gemini AI model front and center. Code discovered within a forthcoming version of the app (v3.41.50.3), initially reported by Android Authority, reveals a more streamlined user experience with Gemini playing a pivotal role in smart home management.

The updated app will feature an “Ask Home” search bar, empowering users to control devices and access historical data through natural language, both text and voice. This aligns with Google’s previously announced integration of Gemini for Home, enabling intuitive voice commands for smart home devices.

Other notable changes include renaming the “Favorites” tab to “Home,” simplifying the bottom navigation bar to just three icons, and introducing a grid-based device access. The update also introduces new environmental data tiles, allowing users to monitor outdoor air quality and temperature. Evidence of unreleased Nest hardware has been found in updated icons, hinting at future product releases.

It is hoped that the update will bring features tested in the Google Public Preview program.
